Just for fun

I found this at Mama Roar's. The questions on the quiz got me thinking.....how do people with these accents teach their kids to read? Or count syllables???? If the word "mad" comes out sounding like "Mayadd"....your kids are at a disadvantage.

What American accent do you have?

Western. Like Midland, Western is another accent that people consider neutral. So, you might not actually be from the Western half of the country, but you definitely sound like it.

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

Cool! Mine was "Northern"

Mine was Southern. I wasn't surprised. My poor children are the ones saying "mayad".

I got Midland and Western. That's okay. If I were going to have an accent, I'd want it to be Irish or British.

I'm laughing over here!

I found your site through a link on Growing In Grace and I had to leave a comment.

My momma has a very southern accent (I learned to speak and read in CA then grew up in TX from 1st grade on so I'm a little better with my vowels.) After catching my home schooled first grader trying to spell 'belt' and sounding out 'beyelt' as she worked it out, I told my momma she was wreaking havoc on Princess' spelling skills! ;)

Incidentally, this little quiz said I have a Western accent. Thanks for the fun quiz!

Midland. That's what you get when you have grandparents with with southern on one side and northern on the other. It's an accent armistice, a tongue truce. That's me--the pronunciation peacemaker.

Southern here of course! I think we pronounce our words more clearly when we read than when we speak!
