It Had To Be You - Harry Connick, Jr.

Chris appreciates the power of words. While he doesn't feel gifted in using them, I greatly appreciate that he understands how important they are. They can be rich and beautiful, sharp and cutting, mysterious and amazing. They can build up and they can tear down.

He sent me a note this week that I have to brag on. It made my day:

Thought I'd send you a poem to express my feelings. After 2 hours of writers block I stole someone else's words

Sonnet 18

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature's changing course untrimm'd;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st:
So long as man can breath, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

--William Shakespeare

I was talking to him later and mentioned that, while it always sounds beautiful, I don't always understand everything Shakespeare is talking about. I asked him what this sonnet means to him.

He answered: "It means you're hot."

"Like summer?"

"Exactly."

So here is my sonnet back to you baby. I'm stealing someone else's words, too.

Awww, sweet. Still giggling about that "hot like summer" thing though. Shakespeare and Harry Connick, Jr. What a great combo.

Omgosh! How cool is that?! I love it when I get attention from my man. In any way shape or form! ;) I have to admit he's never sent me a poem though! LOL
