Daniel Boone was a man...he was a big man.
If you know the rest of that little ditty to which my title refers, please don't sing it. It's very wrong. If you don't know it, don't ask me because I will not tell you. My husband heard it at some point as a kid, and occasionally sings it (once every 5 years or so) just to make me cringe and it now I hear the awful song in my head every time the boys mention Daniel Boone. Since we just wrapped up a lesson on the man, it's been invading my brain far too often. The final project in our Daniel Boone Unit Study was to build a log cabin. The boys obviously didn't build to scale. But they worked very hard and had a lot of fun, spending several days getting it "just right". Then they brought it into the house to show off to friends and family.
And then.......one of them dropped it. I'll let you guess which one it was.
But I highly recommend the study. It took 3 weeks, approximately 15-20 minutes per day, completely independent. I gave Ethan an extra week to finish a report. They learned a lot and had fun doing so. It was $2.00 well spent.
*okay, actually, we finished the study 2 months ago and I just found this unposted draft when I scrolled down my edit-post section. But, obviously, it is too important to not share. (kidding)

I remember doing that in school! I had to make a log cabin and used modeling clay and straws that I had painted brown...
We recently checked out the first season of "Daniel Boone" on DVD from the library. My ds is enjoying it. It is hard to get the song out of our heads, though.
Guess what I'm listening to on YouTube? LOL! I thought I remembered the tune a little, but I certainly didn't remember all the words. Did you know the same guy has songs for Davy Crockett (I'm more familiar with that one), Jim Bowie, and Kit Carson? All available on YouTube. Make it part of your homeschool history enrichment program today!
((cringing)) if this is the song you're listening to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuTSNqX76m0
then it's close. It's the same tune, but the tune Chris sang to me was a distorted version....I think some sort of schoolyard chant or something. It's a racist little rewrite of a ditty and I doubt it would last on youtube very long without being pulled.
Sounds like a very fun and adventurous day! Makeing Memories. Blouse looks good! Your a beautiful young lady.
