My boys made their own website!

I'm still shaking my head in wonder. They sat down together and made it without help from mom. Actually, they designed it and then I set up a free account with Geocities and uploaded it. Motherboard Press sent us a resource entitled Let's Make a Web Page, written by Phyllis Wheeler. This ebook is a 60 page tutorial that walked them through all the steps. It's written for 8-12 year olds, so my 9 & 11 year old were right at home with it.

The book is divided into 9 lessons, which my boys made into a one day project and probably spent a total of 4 hours in reading and creating. Much of this time was spent arguing over discussing what exactly they wanted to create. I probably spent 10 minutes in uploading. A great project that can easily be completed within a week. Mine are looking forward to creating several more.

The sciences are the subject where I look for strong instructional books. Computer science is an area their dad and I definitely find important but it is not an area I am overly concerned about them missing because....well, their dad is a techie. Because of this, we wouldn't have sought out a book on computer classes on our own. However, we did enjoyed it and I think it could be a help to anyone (even adults) wanting to learn about building websites.

It is basically a tutorial on how to use a trial html editor (which the author tells you how to download) and demonstrates how to build a website from start to finish and even how NOT to do certain steps. If the world of computers is completely foreign to you, this could be a great help. For many 8-12 year olds, it IS completely foreign. While my boys were quite handy at playing video games, they didn't have any idea how to even open or save files. If they can accomplish a website through this tutorial ebook, I'm certain any adult could.

The current price is an introductory offer of $19.99 and includes a 30-day money back guarantee. I love guarantees.

Even if you are not interested in the books, I encourage you to sign up for their free email newsletter. It includes hints and tips. And, well, it's free.
