I'm a jerk.

I am so sorry that I was a whiny jerk last night. How ungrateful! I am hugely thankful and hugely flattered by this opportunity. I wish the deadlines were stretched out, but I think I"m putting too much pressure where it doesn't need to be. I think I'm familiar enough now with the Sonlight to do a review. It will be okay (it WILL be okay, she chants to herself) to pause for a short while and use a different curriculum. Luke's right. Homeschooling is flexible. If we pause now, we can come back to it after reviewing the other program. We don't have to stop for a summer break. There is plenty of time to come back to our regularly scheduled programming and do what we love....but it's like stopping in the middle of a really good book! I've never had the self-control to do that. No, I keep reading while the laundry piles up. I keep reading till 3am even though I know the kids will be awake and hungry in 3 hours. What a great opportunity for me to practice restraint! I will pace things out. I will enjoy them at our leisure. And I'll thank God for blessing us with this opportunity.

Actually, I've been curious as to how you are homeschooling with all the reviewing. Do you lose continuity? Do you squeeze it in after your "regularly scheduled programming"? I'm impressed that you are managing this at all!

I'm replacing. We were going with Story of the World and Hakim....a homemade combination for history. I loved it, but it was a lot of work organizing and choosing books and lining them up with our history units. Sonlight replaced that and I love it. We had a spelling program I liked, but it was replaced with a spelling program to review. I liked it even better. Now, we have another spelling program coming up for review and I hate having to stop using something we like, but it is only temporary. And if we don't like it.....we'll stop after giving it an honest try and review it and save someone with our same preferences the trouble of buying it and hating it too. The grammar, I'm concerned about pausing, but there just wasn't room and so many of our programs incorporate some grammar, so hopefully we'll catch up easily enough.

We've been very blessed that, so far, nearly everything we've tried was exactly what we would have chosen for our subjects.

I'm so glad to hear that things aren't all that bad. I totally understand what it's like to get bogged down, and my hope was to encourage you and not make you feel bad. I'm sorry if I did.

Sounds like you're figuring everything out. Rest in those blessings.

Keep up the great work!

Not at all, Luke! You've been nothing but encouragement!
