Villette

"It was a far better kind of love than common; I had no doubts about it or him; it was such a love as honoured, protected, and elevated, no less than it gladdened her to whom it was given."

sigh

I wonder if Charlotte Bronte knew from firsthand experience...or was it a hope.

a wish.

a dream?

Allow me to sigh with you.

Sometimes, I have that, but it's hard to trust it when you don't know how long it's going to last, you know? Does he really love me? Or does he only love me as long as I don't run out of bread for lunch?

Hearts are so easy to break, and they never mend back together quite as prettily as before.

I'm reading Wuthering Heights right now. I sure hope Emily Bronte didn't know characters like this from experience. There's barely one likeable character among them all. They're absolutely detestable with all the worst human attributes. Blech. Maybe I'll try Charlotte Bronte next.
