While prepping for the new school year, I've been reading new books and re-reading old favorites in an effort to re-inspire and remind myself what we're doing, why we're doing it, where we're going, and how we're going to get there. I had an opportunity to review Dreams and Designs by Donna Campos and jumped on it as it fit in perfectly with my current reading needs.
Dreams and Designs—Homemade Supplies to Complement Your Homeschool is an ebook that offers practical inspiration to homeschool moms, new and veteran alike. Though dreams and goals are discussed, the main focus of the book is centered on "designs to fulfill those wants and needs".
Special attention is given to space saving ideas for those in need of creative organization. Useful ideas, from a mom who has been-there-done-that, include everything from building a moving station cart, creating centers, making a unique timeline that displays much but stores easily, incorporating index cards, creating a homemade "movie" screen, and more.
The book is helpful for exiting the "dreamy" stage and entering the practical application stage of homeschool preparations. I've been looking for ways to move out of the textbook rut and make school more interesting and I will definitely be incorporating some ideas from this book.
