The girls and I enjoyed a girlie night recently and watched a movie outside of our usual fare. It was about a witchdoctor wanting to take over a town. I know, it sounds dark, but the music was really good and it kind of sucked me in. So this witchdoctor waylays two travelers and convinces one to be his henchman. He steals some blood from guy #2, which he puts into a talisman that turns guy #1 into a shape shifter. He places a curse on guy #2, and turns him into a mucous covered amphibian.
Mucous-man enlists help from a unique set of new friends to help him hunt down a voodoo enchantress whom he hopes will help him get his body back. Witchdoctor-dude enlists demons to help him get mucous-boy back so he can steal more of his blood. Through the rest of the movie, demons hunt down mucous-boy and drag him back to captivity...and death. Or maybe not. In an inspiring ending, he gets to live and decides to not mooch off the rest of the world anymore. And he gets to fall in love with one of his new friends.
All in all, it was a magical movie with a great soundtrack. Unfortunately, my girls had to turn their heads for about half of it. I kept thinking the bad stuff was surely over. I should have turned it off from the beginning and I kicked myself a hundred times for not doing so. But the girls had been looking forward to it for so long and...and...and nothing. I knew better than to rent a Disney movie.
Disney's Princess and the Frog....not a fan.

I thoroughly share your opinion! Yikes, it was horrible. And I, too, should've known better, but I'd actually read good reviews about it. Huh? It was too scary for me and I'm . . . well, older than my kids.
Fortunately, I saw some of it while renting a movie. And, I completely agree. ICK.
Also...this may be stretching a bit...but is it just me or did they make the black characters way stereotypical? I mean, seriously? Lousiana, Bayou type music? Really? I don't know, maybe it is just me!
Gee, and here I thought it would be cute! I bet the music was great!
Have a great day, love ya!
I wasn't impressed with it either. It wasn't at all what I expected -- nothing anywhere near as good as Beauty and the Beast or The Little Mermaid. Disney definately did their newest "princess" a great disservice... as that movie was terrible! I'm glad my boys didn't see it!
p.s. - We didn't like their version of Christmas Carol either!
