The Princess turns 9

Chris had to work late, so the cake and gifts waited until nearly bedtime. But Honor was patient. She just had a feeling. She had been begging and begging for her own Canterbury Tales book for months, ever since Ethan had to read Chaucer for school last semester. He had shared a bit of a story with her (a clean one) and she wanted a children's version for herself.

A friend recommended Geraldine McCaughrean, but they were out of print. Thankfully, I found a used copy on Amazon and hid it away in the closet. She never saw it, but she seems to know I can't resist a book request. The Daring Girls book was a fabulous yard sale find from this summer, also tucked away in the closet.

Honor was thrilled!

She stayed up reading until her eyes were watering and red.

She'll have a party with Grandparents on Sunday and then another party that she is sharing with her sister at the beginning of October so that they can have a slumber party with friends. She is quite happy with the idea of three parties.

Last night, we were low on eggs and milk...just enough to make it until payday. But I had a spice cake mix and a can of pumpkin puree. With absolutely no other ingredients, they make a fabulous cake! I mixed up a glaze out of powdered sugar, water, a teaspoon of lemon juice, and a dash of salt. She declared it her favorite cake ever.

Sounds like a birthday of pure awesomeness! It's wonderful that a girl can be happy with a couple of birthday books. Happy Birthday, Honor - and happy reading! :)

Im still amazed that your daughter wanted such a deep book at hr ag, How exciting, I wrote earlier and told you of abebooks, however I forgot to mention Dover publications. I think all of thir books are paperback but it's a great way to get great new books at a really cheap price,Your daughter might enjoy a book called Home of the Brave by Katherine Appplegate or a series of books called In Grandma's Attic. I hope she loved her big day.
