Mmmmm....Hot Cocoa

We are huge cocoa lovers. Our favorite is the one on the cocoa box that involves melting butter. Melted butter makes everything taste better. It's a delicious, rich cocoa that no mix can come close to replicating. This mix recipe comes as close as we've found.

Hot Cocoa Mix
  • 10 cups instant dry milk granules or powder
  • 4 3/4 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 3/4 cups powdered non-dairy creamer
  • salt to taste, optional (we add it & I don't know how much....about 1 Tb I think)
  1. In a really big bowl (a stockpot works well,) combine powdered milk, powdered sugar, cocoa, and creamer. Stir till combined. Store cocoa mix in an airtight container. Makes about 15 cups mix, or enough for about 45 servings.
  2. For 1 serving, place 1/3 cup cocoa mixture in a coffee cup or mug, and add 3/4 cup boiling water (or coffee.) Stir to dissolve.
I know you're thinking that's a lot of cocoa and you'll never need that much. But I promise that if you make it thinking you'll share some with the neighbors, you'll find yourself making a 2nd and 3rd batch before the winter is over. And your neighbors will love you.

Here are some great pictures of the kids making cocoa back in December.

Jenn,

So do you have another recipe with the melted butter? I've used a recipe similar to the one you posted, but found it not as good as the cheap store-bought bulk hot chocolate.

If you do, maybe you could e-mail me?
