Ahhhh....it's so much easier now. I still want a Take 5 candy bar, but I'd also be equally happy with a piece of toast with raspberry jam on it. Just one more week and that toast is mine.
We've stayed at this water park before and I do recall them having a divine breakfast buffet. The kids are going to love this. They think we're dragging them to "the city" to go clothes shopping. Yippee. They are dreading it. We will do a little shopping, but then....I can't wait to see their faces.
Okay, back to what I'm eating. Let me first make sure you understand that I'm not being THAT great with this. I broke down and bought some sugar free ice cream. I know, I know...splenda is even nastier for my body than sugar, but I got side-tracked in my goals and rather than "healthier," I started focusing on "skinnier." And the kids got frozen pizza night before last. The cheap kind. And last night, they all ate ramen noodles. They're all sick and in need of soft, easy to swallow, comfort food. They had ramen noodles and popsicles for breakfast. lol. How's that for a sugar fast? Dh has had this sick-bug this past week and the only thing I could get him to eat for 3 days was a single chocolate shake - something cold to slide down his throat.
So here are the supplements:
I'm taking 2 Now's Omega-3 softgels and 3 Twinlab Yeast Fighter capsules every morning after a mug of hot lemon water. You're supposed to take 5 of the Twinlabs, but I was afraid of having a nasty reaction to it and thought I'd work my way up to it. I've heard of people experiencing VIOLENT reactions to what is called "yeast die-off" and it does not sound fun. But it does make me want to get this stuff out of my system all the more. I think I'm done with the detox symptoms though, now I just need to work on establishing new habits. At lunch, I take my prenatal vitamins. It sounds as if everyone reading this blog already has a lot more info on eating healthy and a lot better habits than I've had, so I'll try not to preach to the choir, but I love talking about this stuff that I'm learning and figure it's better to get it out here than bore someone to death with it in person.
I've been reading that while Flax is awesome, you really do need fish oil, too. I just figured it was another source of the good things in flax and since flax tasted so good.... But apparently flax has short-chain proteins and Fish Oil is the only source of long-chain proteins. I'm not sure I understand all of that, but I'm adding the fish oil back into my diet anyway. I took it throughout my pregnancy with Sarah because I'd read in so many places that it was 'the best thing you can do for your baby', but hated the fish-burps. The Now's don't give me fish burps and they only cost $5.00 at my healthfood store. Woohoo! When shopping for a fish oil, keep in mind that you need between 2 - 3 g per day. Most of the fish oil supplements I saw had far fewer than this. When shopping for a yeast fighter, you want something with biotin and caprylic acid. You also need a Probiotic. If you don't take any other supplement when going sugar free, take a probiotic. Take it even if you're not. It's the good stuff in the good yogurt. Only, when you eat yogurt to kill the yeast, you also eat a lot of sugar to feed the yeast. Unless you eat plain and that's just yucky. I like it for dips, but if you cook with it, you kill the probiotics, so there's not much point...except that it's lowfat compared to sour cream, but you know what I mean. I have not yet figured out what a "good" probiotic is and I'd love input here! I'm taking the simple $5.00 bottle of wafers, but I just don't know. I've seen them run $50 for a bottle same size. I've seen them refrigerated and I've seen them on the shelves. I just don't know. This Twinlab Yeastfighter has probiotics in it, but how viable are they?
The kids are taking the same probiotic and a regular multivitamin with extra b-vits. I've read about an over-the-counter form of nystatin and once I figure out what it is, I'd like to get them on that as well. It is like a yeast-fighter for kids.
So there's the supplement talk. That's all I know so far.

I would love to find the probiotic wafers!! my healthfood store only has the powder and pills...and they are 50 a bottle...not in our budget!! I did buy them for Layton and I put the powder in his oatmeal because he is on an antibiotic every other week (literally).
