Happy New Year!

I couldn't resist.

Joel smashed his finger and decided to show it off just as I was snapping a picture of his beautiful face. He has no idea why I keep laughing at this picture.

I hope you and yours have had a great holiday season. I hope you have had a wonderful 2006. Mine kind of stunk, but it's the first time dh and I have ever been able to say that, so I guess we were overdue for a stinky year. We had a layoff, were involved in fraud, estranged friendship, estranged family, prepubescent boyhood, a terrible two, financial stress.....all peppered with the worst lack of sleep ever known in this household for an ENTIRE YEAR. You know how you go a few days with sleep hiccups and it drags you down, but you eventually even out? I haven't evened out in a SOLID YEAR. And just as things were showing signs of improving (midnight to 5 a.m. for 2 weeks straight - yeah, baby!) we started holiday hustle and bustle and messed it all up.

But last night was the last crazy night. We hit 2 new year's parties and didn't get to bed until 2:00. The baby defied reason and stayed awake until 1:00 a.m. with us. But she was happy enough, so it was okay. I won 2 games of Twister. Chris won 1. We got to visit with some really cool people. We got to eat little meatballs. It was a good night. It was the last crazy night. I slept until 9:00. The baby slept until 11:00. That just can't happen anymore. We need to be half-done with school by 11:00.

Today, I began the list of endeavors listed on the left. I'm back on the Bible Study. I'm reading the Bible chronologically. I'm cleaning my house. I'm teaching my kids. I'm getting it all in gear...... We had an interesting sermon yesterday in church and another in Sunday School. In church, our pastor said something that stuck: when we are in the middle of a race, we don't meander. We don't wander aimlessly. We run. We know where we're going. We're in the midst of a marathon. In Sunday School, we discussed the difference between setting resolutions and being resolved. Resolutions are generally just desires...things we want to do. But to be resolved, means that you have determined that it will be so. I will make 2007 a good year. Regardless of circumstance (it's not like I've never had crappy circumstances before,) I will live this year to the fullest. I will do my best. I will be my best. I will enjoy what God has given me.

LOL at the picture!!!

Our 2003 was a sucky year, but it made 2004 extra sweet. Sending prayers that your 2007 will be blessed, prosperous, and happy!

Your son is so beautiful...makes the picture even more funny LOL.
We also had a really bad year, my dh got laid off as well, huge financial problems as a result, and to top it all off some family relationships went south to say the least. So, I understand. In fact, one of my goals is to simply be content. Contentment is something I have always "worked for" and assumed I would eventually achieve. It kind of hit me one day that I really already have it, I just have to stop feeling sorry for myself let myself just BE.
Thankfully I can look back at this past year and realize that it is just that-the past!
Here is to a better year for us both!
