Ouch.

I heard something profound tonight and had to get this written down as I chew on it:

If I can do it without God's help, I don't need to be doing it.

What do you think? On? Off? Touch you right there or make you say 'huh?'

I saw a church sign last week that read "Good with God is O". To which I said, Huh? Obviously, nobody else got it, either, because they took it down. :-)

I don't much like this saying, either, but I'm not sure why yet. I'll have to mull it over. I'm going to go take a shower now.

Jennie,

I saw a church sign that said "If God is your CO-pilot, you need to get out of the car!"

I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be like the common "If God is your Co-Pilot, you need to switch places." At least I hope so.

I just dissolved laughing every time I saw it. Couldn't stop picturing someone driving along, God at their side, reading the sign and saying, Oh! I'm doing it all wrong! and leaping from the vehicle right there in the intersection.

Anyway...

I think I can polish the cabinets without the Lord's help, therefore I shouldn't do it. ;) I "get" the idea, and yes, in that sense I like it. It would be a good pause and apply device when, you know, every once in a great, long, RARE while I'm tempted (or unwittingly choosing) to do the easy thing rather than the Righter thing. Kwim?

But my first reaction is silly: Hmm, I can potty without the Lord's direct intervention, should I stop? Well, wait a minute, I can't potty w/out the Lord, really. God gave me my potty parts. And the water that made me need to tinkle. And the wonderful person that invented my commode. And the money used to buy it. So really I need God's help to do anything so I should do EVERYTHING...

:-P

I am with Andie-the thought is good, the concept is good, but to me it is reasoning that makes my head hurt.

I think that we should seek God's will, that in almost all things in our daily life we must rely on Him, but there are some areas that we are okay by ourselves-going to the bathroom for instance. God gave us the equipment to use so we could be set free to potty without assistance! He also gave us the ability to eat, sleep, take showers, ect... without saying "Okay, God-help me through this!" Now, if you are trying to deny yourself a piece of chocolate cake that is screaming your name you may have to get on your knees...but that is other people. I would just eat it. I don't know what that has to do with this, but I am just saying...

ROFLOL!

Well, I was thinking more from a ministry perspective. If I can teach my Sunday School class without God's assistance, I probably don't need to be teaching Sunday School. If I can sing, but my heart isn't acknowledging God while I do the singing regardless of what words are coming out of my mouth, I don't need to be leading worship. That kind of thing.

oh, well in that case, yes I totally agree.

I think there's a sort of pervasiveness with regard to God. He's naturally and inherently a part of all things. Most of the time, I think you have to work harder to get away from God than to listen to His prompting. But I live on intuition, and not everyone does. My beloved, for example. But he knows enough to pay attention to mine. :-)
