St. Patrick's Day fun

We've had a St. Patties day themed week and I thought I'd share some of the goings on.

Color of the Week: Green
# of the week: 3
Shape of the Week: Shamrock

Geography:
Point out home state on the globe, travel "by boat" to Ireland on the globe.
Big kids get to label and color this map of Ireland.

Music:
Listen to traditional Irish Music
Last year, we listened to an online Irish radio broadcast. It was very cool but I can't seem to find it this year. If anyone knows of one, please share the link so we can enjoy it again.

Rainbow theme:
Make chocolate chip cookies using M&M's instead of chocolate chips for "rainbow cookies"
Glue Fruit Loops onto pictures of rainbows.
Book: Pooh's "Good as Gold"
Big kids get to build a prism.

Minty Playdough
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • food coloring
  • peppermint extract

Mix all ingredients, adding food coloring & extract last. Stir over medium heat until smooth. Remove from pan and knead until blended smooth. Place in plastic bag or airtight container when cooled. Will last for a long time.

Movie:
VeggieTale's Sumo of the Opera. It has a great little segment on it about St. Patrick.

You forgot Patrick: Patron Saint of Ireland, by Tomie DePaola! Alas, this great saint's feast day falls during Holy Week this year, and the Passion of Our Lord trumps Patrick's celebration. :-)

Oooh! I hadn't seen this book! And I didn't know there was a feast day for St. Patrick - thanks for sharing with your Catholic-impaired friend. :) I'll have to look into that one.
