Quotidian Mysteries

MFS introduced me to this book several years ago and it was very enlightening. I think it's time for a re-read. It tackles the topic of drudgery, repetitive monotony, and puts it in a whole new light. It is entitled "Quotidian Mysteries" followed by the words Laundry, Liturgy, and "Women's Work". First, it's nicer to think of those chores with no light at the end of their tunnel as "quotidion" rather than "tedious". It sounds so much nicer, don't you think?

Second, the author explains that laundry and worship are naturally connected and not such an odd combination as you would think. Those repetitious things that need done daily without end are compared to liturgy. It helped me to stop seeing my responsibilities as dull and dreary but rather, as life-giving displays of love. This was years ago when I was in a depression and saw even bathing as a chore. It truly took me from absolute dreariness to inspired. Yeah. I could use a re-read.

In the meantime, I didn't get to fit in all my finds in the online thesaurus. So here: soporific, wearisome, tedious, bromidic.

There!

Ah!

I feel smarter.

Thanks Jenn! I'm going to check it out. I could use a fresh perspective on the monotony of certain chores - like laundry!

Hi Jenn,
What a great encouragement you are to me this morning. I am literally off to the laundry room now, and with a whole new attitude. Thanks!
