Busy Bees

Look what my darling husband has been up to! We are renovating a farm house and it requires much tearing down before we get to the much building up stage. Here is the dining room, with newly revealed bead-board:

Here is the closest thing to insulation we've found yet:

The newspaper-wallpaper has been fascinating to read.  Look how cheap things used to be!

This fascinated me because I was just reading about Jesse Owens last week. In a round-about way, he played a special role in the book The Book Thief , which should be required reading for everyone.

Chris and the boys have been working so very hard on this house, but we still have many unsolved problems yet to tackle, like what to do with this giant hole in the ceiling:

But the little steps of progress are giving us hope. This little outlet might not seem like a big deal to you, but it was cause for much rejoicing in my house:

Look! More outlets! And switches! And a really tired husband.

Just when we start to get discouraged, we stumble across some new thing that gives us hope. Today, we pulled up two layers of old carpet and discovered a floor that doesn't need replacing. It doesn't even need sanding. It just needs staples removed and a good cleaning. Ahhhhhh!

So, that's where we've been, when not coughing/hacking/sneezing/fevering since Christmas. Any and all advice is very, very welcome. We have no idea what we're doing, but we're loving doing it.

That is soooo cool! After all these years I'm glad grandmas house is getting some TLC. :)

I am so glad you like the idea! I worry that family might not want the house messed with - there are so many good memories there!
